The Lost Garden at Blenheim Palace has opened

Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire

The Lost Garden is Blenheim Palace’s hidden world of adventure, where mini explorers of all ages create their own exciting stories as they clamber, climb, paddle, slide, splash and zip through the exciting zones.

The £3.6m project, created within the Walled Garden in the grounds of Blenheim Palace, extends to over 1.38 acres. You can see the CGI flyover here.

In the true spirit of Capability Brown’s approach to landscape design, the play is centered around re-shaping the landforms within the Walled Garden to reference the beautiful lakes within Blenheim’s wider landscape. This ambitious play area has been designed to develop intrigue, suspense, discovery and adventure in its young visitors.

Simon Egan, Project Development Fella at CAP.Co speaking about the project said, “The inspiration for this adventure playground came directly from its surroundings. The kitchen garden, the concealed entrance and the vast expanse of historical walls, buildings and original features – not to mention the iconic Capability Brown landscape that Blenheim Palace sits within and is so well-known for.

“As well as adventure and firing up imaginations, we were also aware of the need for a play space which offered some tranquility and quiet time. The site has therefore been zoned into six main areas – arrival; discover; rest and play, explore and adventure, journey through; and gather and reflect - which all offer something completely different, intent on stimulating all of the senses in a variety of ways."

Heather Carter, Blenheim Palace‘s managing director said “The Lost Garden really is a hidden world of adventure where children can let their imaginations run wild, with hours of limitless, carefree, active play. We wanted to make it inclusive and accessible to all children, so the majority of the play area is wheelchair friendly and we will be holding regular SEND days for children with special needs.”

The official opening is just a few weeks away so we will share some more images soon after that.
