Waste Management Policy

Introduction

This Policy statement supports CAP.CO’s Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Health and Safety Policies as well as establishing a framework for all waste management practices carried out by CAP.CO.

Policy Objectives

To ensure waste management practices are performed to protect human health and the environment in accordance with all legislative requirements for waste.

To minimise waste generation across the entire business and to repair, recover, reuse and recycle in lieu of the disposal of waste to landfill, where reasonably practicable.

To promote environmental awareness and best practice to our staff and our supply chain partners in order to encourage waste minimisation, reuse and recycling.

We will do this by:
CAP.CO will apply a waste hierarchical approach, to reduce, reuse, recycle and recover waste products in preference to the disposal of waste to landfill. We aim to minimise all non-hazardous and hazardous waste, whilst sorting/reusing and recycling construction waste into key streams, either sorted on or off site via the licensed waste contractors that we use.

Reuse and recycle graphic

– Ensuring that we only utilise authorised waste management companies who have the relevant credentials such as licensed waste carriers.

– Providing staff with training and equipment to facilitate accurate measuring and ordering of materials, equipment and components to reduce waste at source.

– Encouraging and supporting the reuse of materials where practicable.

– Considered selection of materials, equipment and components that can be readily recycled when necessary.

– Monitoring, measuring and recording our waste to ensure our effectiveness. Monthly reports are produced addressing at source any shortfalls in our waste and recycling statistics.

– Implement procedures for sorting, reusing and recycling our waste into defined waste groups, either on site, at our workshop or via our licensed waste removal contractors.

– Encouraging our suppliers to only use essential packaging and where possible use greener alternatives.

– Reduce single-use plastics as far as practicable, encouraging all our staff and supply chain partners to support this initiative.

– Provide adequate training/consultation to our staff on waste management issues and best practices.

– Minimising the use of paper and cardboard products. Promoting the use of paper from sustainable or recycled sources.

– Assign duties to key personnel to ensure that the key deliverables outlined in this policy are implemented throughout the business.

– All staff and supply chain partners to comply with this Policy, to ensure compliance with all environmental and waste legislation.
